Kami Ghavi Helm is an award-winning violinist, composer, and music educator based in Chicago. With a diverse career spanning solo and ensemble performance, original composition, and private and group instruction, Kami approaches music as a living, evolving language.
Kami has studied under internationally acclaimed violinists including Cho-Liang Lin, Cyrus Forough, Zygmund Kowalski and Alexandre Brussilovsky. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. His performance career includes residencies and solo appearances across the U.S. and Europe
As an educator, Kami brings a dynamic and holistic approach to teaching, informed by his diverse academic background and global performance experience. He has taught at the pre-college and university level, directed string programs, and maintained a vibrant private violin and piano studio, working with over 100 students in both individual and group settings. Many of his students have placed in music competitions and got into prestigious orchestra programs. His recent leadership as Strings Director at Campbell Learning Center includes curriculum development, teacher recruitment, program outreach, and concert production.
Equally at home in traditional and contemporary music, Kami's creative projects explore the intersection of classical violin with Persian and French cultural influences. His recent endeavors include a video series on Persian classical music, collaborations with visual artists, and commissioned compositions supported by the French Embassy. He is currently developing a recording project featuring original works.
Whether performing, teaching, or creating, Kami is committed to fostering artistic connection through cultural dialogue, innovation, and a deep respect for tradition.
